When ABC News produced its live Oscar coverage for “Good Morning America”, it called on Diane Masciale to get the job done. For numerous Oscar seasons, Masciale executed the coverage from Hollywood with anchors Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts behind the scenes at the Academy Awards. These big budget, remote shows included complex, live broadcasts with elaborate set designs, big audiences and live music. No program was complete without a lineup of celebrity guest hosts like Cindy Crawford, Tim Gunn, Cameron Mathison and others, exclusive interviews with the year’s Oscar winners, movie stunts and hot dance numbers from the hit show “Dancing with the Stars”. Masciale commanded the multi-hour, live shows from a mobile command center synched with network coverage at the New York Times Square studios.

ONLINE CONTENT: Senior Executive Producer Diane Masciale was tapped to create, launch and run AOL’s news and entertainment web show, AOL Daybreak. Led by Ben Silverman’s multi-media company, Electus, Masciale teamed up with digital studio, Bright Red Pixels, to develop a signature show for the portal’s homepage. AOL Daybreak quickly became one of AOL’s most viewed web programs each week. A full social media campaign, including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and YouTube, complemented the daily web cast to build the brand.

As a former executive level, network producer for NBC’s Today Show and ABC’s Good Morning America, Masciale put together a winning formula that helped drive new traffic to AOL’s homepage.

DOCUMENTARIES: Veteran long form producer, Diane Masciale, chronicled the celebrated Cirque du Soleil’s debut show at the pre-eminent Radio City Music Hall in New York City for WNET. The program, Cirque du Soleil: The Surreal World of Zarkana, captured the exciting, behind the scenes action as the legendary circus troupe created one of its most elaborate extravaganzas to date. From the death defying, one of a kind performances to the handmade costumes and set to the intricate makeup, Masciale captured the highs and the lows as the show painstaking pushed to perfection for opening night on one of the biggest stages in the world.

The documentary aired on WNET’s New York flagship stations, Thirteen and WLIW21.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT: When NBC programmers wanted to develop a new, daytime show that would tap into the consumer audience and generate sales for ShopNBC, they turned to Diane Masciale to formulate the new program. Masciale developed the Shop & Style concept, developed the editorial content, selected talent and staff, coordinated set and graphic design and worked with the sales and IT departments to a create seamless, purchasing platform. Shop & Style quickly took hold and did better year-to-date than previous programming in the same time period and at the same time, racked up sales for ShopNBC. The programming concept built around a new NBC channel helped create a business model for programming centered on newly acquired network properties.

Masciale came up with a slate of exclusive programming featuring the fun and the groundbreaking aspects of the gigantic ship for a live broadcast out at sea for ABC’s Good Morning America. The ship, as long as the Empire State Building is tall, posed complicated production problems that required innovative, technical equations and precision timing. Masciale, directing her editorial team at sea, commanded the operation to bring the ABC audience a first ever look at the sights and sounds of this 220,000-ton floating city.

In addition, as Senior Broadcast Producer of Dateline NBC, Masciale oversaw many of the show’s award-winning featured programs including the saga of a ruthless, modern day killer named none other than Jesse James Hollywood. Masciale oversaw the suspenseful, crime story that gave viewers an insightful look inside the diabolical mind of a man who robbed a family of their cherished son.

As Executive Producer of the prime time hour with anchor Sam Champion, Masciale coordinated the highly produced, dramatic hour that told the story of several families who faced the massive EF5 twister as it tore through their town. The complex video sequences and high impact interviews made “Blown Away: Twisted Terror” a 20/20 season favorite.

NEWS COVERAGE: The special ABC News coverage of the intense Spring Offensive in the War in Afghanistan required a team of seasoned journalists. ABC News turned to The Diane’s: Diane Sawyer to report and anchor and Diane Masciale to Executive Produce in the field and live from the capital city. This complicated and dangerous assignment took The Diane’s half way around the world from New York to Afghanistan and back again. Covering the story took the team from the streets of Kabul to the presidential palace to the battlefront. To see the war first hand, the Diane’s traveled across the country with the head of the U.S. forces on a chopper flight over the no man’s land along the Afghan-Pakistani border where the Taliban and Al-Qaeda were poised to attack and boots down on the ground at a military outpost deep in Afghanistan. Diane Masciale helped orchestra the live news coverage from Kabul that also included an exclusive one-on-one interview with Afghan President Hamid Karzai from the war-torn country’s heavily guarded, presidential palace.
